Exploring Adelaide: John’s Journey of Adventures and Independence

One of One Culture’s participants John decided he wanted to take a spontaneous holiday to spend some time right in the heart of Adelaide for a total of four days. Not only was this a great opportunity for some ‘me time’ for John and an opportunity to work on his independence skills, it also allowed for some crucial respite for his family who he lives at home with.

After listening to his requests, One Culture assisted with helping him to book an apartment right in the centre of Adelaide, giving him the freedom to visit an array of local attractions! Working alongside his Support Workers, they colaborately put together an itinerary which included a variety of exciting plans, such as walking along the Torrens River, playing bowling games, exploring The Fringe (the city's main event), strolling through the Botanic Gardens, and visiting local restaurants.

Visiting the Torrens River was an exciting experience for John, who had a relaxing walk enjoying the amazing views. He also enjoyed the live performances at, food, and the festive atmosphere at The Fringe and the Botanic Gardens provided an opportunity for John to relax, connect with nature and explore the gardens at his own pace. On top of this, he made a few trips in tram and public transport with the support of One Culture Staff, helping him to increase his skills and confidence.

Whilst having a huge amount of fun, John was also responsible for managing his daily tasks, including cooking, organising, all guided by Support Workers. Through this experience, he developed effective time and space management skills, which enabled him to fulfil his duties all whilst having fun too!

John's spontaneous holiday in Adelaide CBD has been a wonderful experience, and with the help of One Culture Support Services, he was able to achieve his goals of becoming more independent and socially confident. The Support Workers provided John with the necessary resources and support to navigate his new environment, which really helped to boost his confidence.

We absolutely love to assist with organising some respite for our participants, and seeing the joy that it can bring to both themselves and their families is truely something special. If you are interested in either organising something for yourself or for someone that you know, please reach out to us to discuss this further on: 08 7080 3894 or on info@oneculturegroup.org
